Till recently preparations for Certificates of Competency by sea-going Officers meant their attending lectures in a Class Room, the Classes being conducted by qualified and experienced professionals in the field. This method, while providing an overriding advantage in having a face-to-face interaction between the Teacher and the Learner, had several drawbacks.
It required the sea-farer to spend a major portion of his leave attending Classes
This ate into his quality time, which he would understandably wish to spend “at home” with his family
Classes were held only in major port cities. This meant his having to relocate for the duration of the Classes.
There was scope for progressing in the Class at a rate in accordance with one’s ability
Teledata Marine Systems has addressed these drawbacks while designing these web-based e-Learning Courses for the Certificates of Competency. The TMS option allows a sea-going officer to:
Study for the Examination from home
Access the Courses at times convenient to him/her
Progress at a pace comfortable to him/her
Benefit from mentoring by an e-Coach
Raise his/her level of confidence
Save on costs of travel, relocation etc.
This collaborative project has been initiated by TMS and the Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA), known as the best seafaring Training Institution in the Asia Pacific.
